The AKG Solidtube is the result of half a century of experience in the design of world-class transducers. Ruggedness, high SPL capability, and extremely low self-noise coupled with the unmistakable "tube sound" make up the heart of the Solidtube. An elegant styling completes the package, distinguishing the Solidtube from the multitude of classic tube microphone imitators. The large-diaphragm condenser transducer has been specifically tuned by AKG for this microphone. Our decades of experience in this field enabled us to create an ideal complement to the warm sounding tube preamp. The heart of the Solidtube is the ECC 83 (12AX7) vacuum tube. In addition to providing perfect transfer characteristics, it is readily available from your local AKG dealer or most electronic stores. A switch on the side of the Solidtube activates a 20 dB pre-attenuation pad. This enables the microphone to handle sound pressure levels up to 145 dB SPL. Low frequency noise below 100 Hz can be eliminated by turning on the low-cut switch located on the front panel of the power supply unit. The Solidtube comes in a rugged carrying case with a complete set of accessories: elastic shock mount suspension, windscreen, power supply and all connecting cables.
